(DFD #14)
ANALYSIS: The Bills
draft will ultimately be judged on the success of EJ Manuel. Manuel was
ascending after a great Senior Bowl performance, but still was drafted higher
than we projected. What the Bills did right was surround their new QB with
weapons. Robert Woods is surehanded target , who runs great routes. Goodwin is
world class track star, who also is a good receiver. Rogers, who went undrafted
due to off-field concerns, could also add another weapon. Alonso is a madman at
LB, but was drafted about 50 spots too high. Duke Williams could be a solid
special teams ace to start, and contribute to the secondary in dime packages.
Gragg could make the team as the #3 TE, if he can stay healthy. Hopkins should
be a good kicker in the league for years.

ANALYSIS: The
Dolphins traded up to #3 to select Dion Jordan, to the surprise of many. The
uber-athletic Jordan should form a great pass rushing combo with Cameron Wake.
Taylor is nice addition to the secondary, that could press into the starting
lineup early. Will Davis will be a solid addition to the nickel package. Dallas
Thomas could start his career inside at guard, but could eventually find
himself starting on the outside. Gillislee should be able to pair with lamar
Miller to form a nice 1-2 punch at RB. Jenkins should be a demon on special
teams. Sims has a chance to be a big contributor in the red zone.

ANALYSIS: The joke on
draft day was, Belichick must have a
shuttle bus parked at Rutgers. The Patriots drafted three players from the
State University of New Jersey. Like last year’s 2nd rounder Tavon
Wilson, Duron harmon was a safety drafted on day two that no one thought would
be drafted at all. Jaime Collins is an athletic freak who has the potential to
be an impact pass rusher. I didn’t have Dobson rated as high as others, but he
can make an impact in the league. New England seemingly draft DB’s high every
year, and they never seem to get it right. I really like Logan Ryan, and think
he can be a starter by 2014. Josh Boyce and undrafted WR TJ Moe could be solid
possession players. With the recent releases on the DL, Grissom could make the
team as a 3 tech. Buchanan also has a chance to contribute early.

ANALYSIS: After the
Darrelle Revis trade, the Jets drafted the unanimous
top CB in the draft in Milliner. He is a physical corner that should start from
day one. Richardson was a good value pick, but not necessarily a need pick. I
had Geno Smith rated as the top QB, and for the Jets to get a potential
franchise QB at pick 39 is a steal. Geno should be starting early for the Jets.
After the Senior Bowl, I had written off Winters. I thought he could be a solid
addition in the 4th-5th round area, but is overdrafted in
the 3rd. Aboushi could be a nice depth player on the OL at four
positions. The Jets drafted William Campbell as an OG, instead of a DT, so he
is probably ticketed for the practice squad.

AGENT: Rogers Gaines, OT, Tennessee State (DFD #23)
ANALYSIS: The Ravens always seem to
play the draft game as well as anyone. Ozzie Newsome had another great draft
haul in 2013. Trading up in round 2, to draft the top ILB in Arthur Brown was
shrewd. He will go a long way to replacing Ray Lewis. Matt Elam should replace
Bernard Pollard as the starter at strong safety. Brandon Williams is a quick,
squatty defensive tackle, who will find his way into the rotation this year.
Juszczyk is a hybrid FB/TE/H-back that can give the Ravens offense mismatch
opportunities. Wagner could eventually find his way into the starting lineup on
the right side. Simon, Jensen, Mellette, and Anthony could all find
reserve/special teams roles this year. Kapron Lewis-Moore is coming off an ACL
tear in the National Title Game, and will at the very least find himself on the
P.U.P. list, possibly I.R.

ANALYSIS: The Bengals used their first
two picks surrounding Andy Dalton with more weapons. Tyler Eifert was top rated
TE prospect, and should give Cincinnati one of the top TE tandems in the
league. Bernard was our top rated RB, and adds a pass catching dimension to the
backfield the Bengals haven’t had in years. Margus Hunt is a physical beast,
but has the football I.Q. of an eighth grader. He did block 17 kicks in his
college career, so a year one special teams impact, isn’t out of the question.
Shawn Williams was also a slight reach in the 3rd round. He could
find his way into the starting lineup year one at safety, if for no other
reason than that Taylor Mays won’t be starting. Sean Porter should see plenty
of snaps in the nickel formation. Reid Fragel is an interesting prospect at
tackle, and has the potential to be a starter down the road. Burkhead is a
potential replacement for Brian Leonard, but must beat out others to make it.
Hawkinson and T.J. Johnson will compete for backup spots on the offensive line.
Cobi Hamilton has the potential to be a solid #3/#4 receiver type.

nickel CB. Slaughter and Gilkey should both be solid depth players. Armonty
Bryant, who slipped due to off field issues, has already been arrested since
the draft concluded. Already without their 2nd round pick because of
the Josh Gordon pick in the supplemental draft, the Browns traded out of the 4th
and 5th rounds, picking up 2014 3rd and 4th
round picks. Only time will tell if these moves were wise.

ANALYSIS: Jarvis Jones is the
prototypical Steelers player, a terrific pass rusher, who could easily be a ten
sack-a-year guy. Landry Jones was not my favorite QB in this draft, mainly due
to his tendency to check down ALL THE TIME, but he landed in a situation where
he could develop into a serviceable NFL QB. Bell has been a bell cow back for
the last three years at Michigan State, and he may very well end up being a
good back, but when I watched him in college, I didn’t see “IT”. Wheaton could
take up the WR slack, left by the departure of Mike Wallace. Thomas and
Hawthorne should provide solid depth in the secondary. Nick Williams and
undrafted Omar Hunter both could possibly make the 53-man roster or the
practice squad. They could eventually be contributors. Vince Williams opened up
eyes at the Senior Bowl, and could be a special teams ace day one.

very quick, runs good routes, and has great hands. A guy who will absolutely
punish receivers and running backs equally, DJ Swearinger also has the range to
be a great cover safety. Brennan Williams could have a future at left tackle in
the NFL, but is coming off a leg injury. Sam Montgomery could be a special pass
rusher, but his stock dropped when questions about his work ethic arose.
Trevardo Williams and David Quessenberry should provide solid depth at their

Joeckel provides insurance in case he can’t be resigned. Also with all the top
pass rushers they face in the AFC South, it isn’t a bad idea, to keep your QB
standing (whomever that ends up being). Cyprien is a terrific safety, with
great range, and a nasty streak. Gratz was drafted a round too high for my
tastes, but should be a solid nickel corner. Ace Sanders was the best punt
returner in this draft, and should make for a great slot receiver. Jacksonville
drafted Denard Robinson to play RB (which is probably his best position), but
in all likelihood will be a jack of all trades. Evans could eventually make
some starts in the secondary. Undrafted QB Matt Scott should not only make the
team, but if Blaine Gabbert or Chad Henne falters, he could see some snaps this
season.

is an absolute mauler on the OL, and is an 8-10 year starter in the NFL.
Warmack is one of the safest picks in the draft. The Titans traded up for
Justin Hunter in round two, pairing him with last year’s first rounder Kendall
Hunter to give Jake Locker some nice weaponry. Zavier Gooden is one of the most
athletic LB’s in this draft, and is an asset in pass defense. Schwenke will be
the eventual starter at center. Blidi Wreh-Wilson has a chance to start this
year at corner. Often overshadowed at LSU by his more heralded teammates, Lavar
Edwards has a chance to make a name for himself with Tennessee.

Williams is a solid DT, who is good in run support, and can rush the passer a

possesses decent burst and speed. The problem with Ball is how much tread is
left on his tires. Kayvon Webster barely carried a draftable grade for us, so I
am at a loss as to why he was drafted in the Top 100. Quanterrus Smith is a
special pass rusher, who if he can 100% recover from ACL surgery could be a
steal. Tavarres King should be a solid #4 receiver for Denver this year. Zac
Dysert was a QB I liked more in 2011 than in 2012. He really struggled at the
Senior Bowl, but he has the talent. He could compete with last year’s 2nd
rounder Brock Osweiler to be the #2 QB in Denver.

AGENT: Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee (DFD #5)
ANALYSIS: Time will
tell if Eric Fisher is a better OT than Luke Joeckel, but he has the ability to
be a perennial all-pro. He will probably start on the right side this year, as
Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert has one year left on his franchise tag. Travis
Kelce is a field stretching tight end that can be a great weapon. Knile Davis
was an all-SEC back two years ago. Multiple injuries later, we are left with
just potential. Nico Johnson is a two-down linebacker only. He is great against
the run, a liability against the pass. The Chiefs have released or traded two
corners since the draft, so that tells me Sanders Commings has an excellent
chance to make an early impact. Mike Catapano could help add depth to the
d-line. Braden Wilson will compete with recently traded for Anthony Sherman to
be the team’s starter at FB. Tyler Bray has all the physical tools you look for
in a starting QB. His mental makeup caused him to fall out of the draft. If he
can get his act together, and soak in the knowledge he will get from Andy Reid,
he could be a starter in the future. That is a big IF however.

ANALYSIS: The Raiders
took a lot of chances early. D.J. Hayden almost died during a practice this
year. His recovery up to this point has been extraordinary. If he never has a
relapse he will be great, but for me, he was picked to high with much risk
involved. Menelik Watson didn’t even play football until a few years ago. His
athleticism is unbelievable. If he can harness that with football IQ, he could
be a stud for years to come. Sio Moore adds some pass rush ability to an
Oakland defense that sorely needs it. I would not be surprised to see Tyler
Wilson starting at QB this season. Wilson has a big accurate arm. Nick Kasa is
a DE turned TE that is a tremendous blocker. Mychal Rivera can stretch the
field but doesn’t offer much as a blocker. Latavius Murray is a bigger RB that
flashes ability.

ANALYSIS: DJ Fluker
is a physical beast, who is a mauler in the run game. His biggest question is
as a pass blocker, where he struggled at times. I also question whether he can
play left tackle, or if he is a right tackle only. Manti Te’o is a no frills
solid middle linebacker, he was a bit overhyped coming out of college, but will
be a solid pro. Keenan Allen is one of the better route runners in this class,
but after a slow recovery from injuries, a slow 40 time at his pro day, and
some off field issues, he dropped to the 3rd round. He could be a
steal for San Diego. Steve Williams and Tourek Williams should provide solid
depth at their respective positions. Brad Sorensen is an interesting prospect.
He has the size and arm strength you look for in an NFL QB, but his accuracy
leaves something to be desired. He could develop into a nice find down the
road.

ANALYSIS: Most people immediately crapped on the Cowboys draft
because of the reach in drafting Travis Frederick. While I agree that Frederick
was drafted higher than where he should’ve gone, he should still be an interior
starter for years to come. I really loved the Gavin Escobar selection. He is
still developing as a blocker, but as a receiver he was one of the best in this
draft. He should form a great pair with Jason Witten, and eventually replace the
all-pro as the starter. Terrance Williams is a deep threat only at this point,
but he is very good at it. Wilcox is a work in progress, but has the potential
to be an impact safety. He is a former RB at Georgia Southern. BW Webb is a
very good corner, who held his own at the Senior Bowl. He could eventually be a
starter in Dallas. Joseph Randle isn’t an elite running back, but has good
burst, and is very similar to current Cowboys starter Demarco Murray. Holloman
played the “spur” position at South Carolina, a hybrid linebacker-safety.
Holloman has good diagnostic abilities, and decent speed. He should be a solid
special teamer.

Johnathan Hankins is a very good run defender that has some pass rush ability.
His conditioning needs work so he can stay on the field more. A poor combine
workout is partly to blame for the drop of Damontre Moore. We had Moore ranked
as our #7 overall player. He is a fantastic pass rusher, who should help the
Giants immediately. Overrated by many coming into the draft, Nassib fell to the
Giants at a point of value. He should be the #2 QB this year. Cooper Taylor is
a big prospect at safety (6’4); he should help on special teams at first, and
could eventually compete to start.

ANALYSIS: A QB coming
out of high school, Lane Johnson developed into one of the top offensive tackle
prospects in the nation. Of the three top OT’s in this draft, Johnson is the
most athletic, and fits in very well with what new Eagles coach Chip Kelly
wants to do on offense. Zach Ertz is an excellent possession continuing TE,
which should help the Eagles offense from day one. I really think Bennie Logan
is going to pair well with last year’s first rounder Fletcher Cox, and give the
Eagles an excellent front line as they convert to a 34 defense. Matt Barkley is
a very accurate QB, who has some limits arm wise. He has the IQ and moxie to
overcome these limits and win at an NFL level. Earl Wolff and Jordan Poyer both
have the talents to be eventual starters in the league, and at the very least
solid depth players.

Redskins really maximized their value, since they were without a first rounder
due to the RGIII trade. David Amerson had a letdown 2012 season, after coming
into the year ranked in top 5 overall. He should be a starting corner in DC
this year. Jordan Reed is a move TE/H-back type that has good hands and athleticism.
I wasn’t the biggest Phillip Thomas fan coming into the draft, but he has
starter ability. Bacarri Rambo is a player I did like, and the Redskins may
have drafted two new safety starters. In the fifth round the Redskins drafted
two former Seminoles. Both Chris Thompson and Brandon Jenkins are coming off
major knee injuries and in the case of Thompson multiple injuries. Thompson,
before his latest knee injury was one of the fastest RB’s in this draft.

ANALYSIS: The top of
the Bears draft did a little reaching; the bottom had a lot of value. Kyle Long
was graded as a mid-2nd rounder for us, but he has tremendous
upside. He should start at guard from day one, but has the potential to move to
tackle down the road. We had, at best, a 5th round grade on Jon
Bostic. The Bears may regret passing on Arthur Brown, to select Bostic. Khaseem
Greene is a very athletic linebacker, who can cover very well. He may be the
replacement for Lance Briggs in the near future. Jordan Mills is a real nasty
tackle, who provides depth at both tackle positions. Cornelius Washington is a
good pass rusher, who had a terrific Senior Bowl game. Marquess Wilson was one
of the nation’s top receivers during his sophomore year, but had some issues
with new coach Mike Leach, and was dismissed from the team. He could compete
for the #4 WR spot. Undrafted center PJ Lonergan has a solid chance to make it
as a backup to all three interior line positions.

first three picks netted them what should be three day one starters. Ziggy
Ansah is a mound of potential, but he can he turn it on week-to-week is the big
question. Ansah struggled during Senior Bowl practices, but dominated the game
itself. Darius Slay was the less heralded Miss. State corner, but he has
tremendous skills. Slay is slid in man-to-man coverage and tackles really well.
Larry Warford is a dominator in the run game. He has the ability to collapse
half of a defensive line on run plays. Devin Taylor has the size and tools to
be an NFL starter, just needs to put it all together. Michael Williams and
undrafted Joseph Fauria should both make the team as backups to Brandon

big need, but they couldn’t pass up the value of Sharrif Floyd. Floyd can rush
the passer, and is a tremendous disruptor in the run game. Xavier Rhodes is a
big corner, with tremendous speed and coverage skills. Cordarrelle Patterson is
athletically superior to nearly anyone in this draft, but his route running is
non-existent. The Vikings will have to find a way to get him the football.
Gerald Hodges was one of the leaders of the Penn State team; he could be a
starter early. Michael Mauti, the other leader of the Nittany Lions, may not be
able to play this season. Jeff Locke will be punting for the Vikings this year.
The team has already released veteran Chris Kluwe. Jeff Baca and Travis Bond

there at some point. Goodman and Maponga are good but not great pass rushers,
who can add depth to the position. Toilolo is a 6’8” big bodied TE, who should
be an excellent threat in the redzone. He is probably not the long term
replacement for Tony Gonzalez however. Renfree is what you look for in a #3 QB.

Kenjon Barner is a very quick RB, who can be a change of pace/3rd

ANALYSIS: The Saints have struggled recently in the draft, and
thanks to “Bountygate” were lacking a second round pick. With their first pick,
the Saints took the top safety in the draft Kenny Vaccaro. He should be a day
one starter, replacing Roman Harper. If the Saints are patient, they could have
a steal in Terron Armstead. Armstead is huge, athletic, but very raw left
tackle. He may be at least a year away from making a significant contribution. John
Jenkins is a humongous nose tackle prospect, who is very agile for a man his
size. He should play at the nose, and allow them to shift last year’s 3rd
rounder Akiem Hicks to DE. Kenny Stills is a very fast vertical threat, that
can help replace what they lost after Robert Meachem left last year. The Saints
hit home runs in undrafted signings. Chase Thomas and Kevin Reddick, will not
only compete for playing time in the Saints new 34 defense, they could
eventually start. Ryan Griffin, who is use to playing in the Superdome, should
be the Saints #3 QB this year that can develop into a solid player down the
road.

ANALYSIS: The Buccaneers acquired perennial
all-pro Darrelle Revis in a trade with the Jets for the 13th pick.
Revis is coming off ACL surgery. They continued solidifying their secondary
with the selection of Johnthan Banks. Banks is a good press man corner, with
excellent ball skills. Mike Glennon has a huge arm, but his body is frail, and
makes poor decisions half the time. They will expect him to push Josh Freeman
for the starting gig, but I can’t see him being successful. Akeem Spence is a
poor man’s Geno Atkins. He possesses the ability, but doesn’t always bring the
effort. The same can be said for William Gholston. The former Spartans DE has
the ability, but he too takes plays off. Mike James is not a special back, and
will struggle to make the squad.

AGENT: Tony Jefferson, DS, Oklahoma (DFD #8)
ANALYSIS: The
Cardinals hit this draft out of the park in my opinion. Jonathan Cooper is a
crazy good athlete at the guard position. He gets to the second level so quick.
Kevin Minter is a no-nonsense tackling machine, that should anchor the inside linebacker
position for years to come. Tyrann Mathieu has game changing ability as a punt
returner, and with his ability to force turnovers as a nickel corner or free
safety. He did reportedly fail over TEN drug tests at LSU. If he can stay
clean, a BIG IF at this point, his value can be immense. Alex Okafor is a very
solid DE prospect, who has pass rush ability, and is good in run support. Earl
Watford will have a chance to start on the inside in Arizona, just because
there O-Line is so bad. He was a reach to me in the 4th round,
however. The Cardinals run game will improve significantly with the additions
of Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington. Ryan Swope is an excellent receiver, who
always has a knack for being open, and is quicker than you would think. DC
Jefferson is a candidate for the practice squad.

AGENT: Braden Brown, OT, BYU (DFD #16)
ANALYSIS: Sam Bradford was a very happy QB after draft day. The
Rams added the most explosive playmaker in this year’s class, with the
selection of Tavon Austin. Austin can line up in the backfield, in the slot,
out wide, punt returner, kick returner, and the good thing is, he is explosive
at all of those places. In the third round, the Rams added his teammate Stedman
Bailey. When Geno Smith got to the redzone, he was looking for Bailey. Alec
Ogletree is one of the most athletic linebackers in this draft, but multiple
off the field issues pushed him down draft boards. TJ McDonald is a solid
safety product, but not worthy of a 3rd round pick. Barrett Jones is
not flashy, but at worst he is your top backup at all five offensive line
positions. At best, he could be a starter at guard. Brandon McGee has a ceiling
as a dime cornerback, at worst practice squad guy. Zac Stacy should be able to
be the #2 RB for the Rams this year.

AGENT: Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific
ANALYSIS: The 49ers traded up to get their replacement for
Dashon Goldson with LSU’s Eric Reid. Reid is a solid tackler with decent range.
Tank Carradine is a terrific edge pass rusher. He fell to the 2nd
round because of a mid-season torn ACL. Vance McDonald is a solid TE prospect,
but I wasn’t as big of a fan of his as most. Corey Lemonier is another solid
pass rusher, who I believe hasn’t reached his potential yet. Quinton Patton is
a great route runner with excellent hands. I have no idea why he slipped to the
4th round. Marcus Lattimore is easily my favorite player I have ever
watched. Lattimore has had ACL tears in each knee over the last two years. When
healthy, there is no better RB in pass protection or catching the ball out of
the backfield. He has fantastic cutting ability. He doesn’t have elite top end
speed, but that doesn’t stop him from being one of the most productive backs in
college football. He will probably sit out the 2013 season, but in 2014 he
could be the 49ers replacement for Frank Gore. Quinton Dial will be a solid
depth player at the 34 DE spot. Nick Moody will need special teams to make it.
I also have serious doubts as to whether any of the 49ers 7th
rounders make it.

(DFD #8)
ANALYSIS: The
Seahawks reached for their first couple of picks, after they traded their 1st
rounder for WR Percy Harvin. Christine Michael has a lot of talent, but his
effort has come into question. He stayed in the doghouse this season. Jordan
Hill is a solid DT, but not spectacular. He should provide solid depth. Jesse
Williams had some injury questions that pushed him down, but when healthy he is
a space eater, that is hard to move and opens up lanes for his teammates. Chris
Harper is a physical wideout, who can be a solid possession receiver. Tharold
Simon is the big corner Seattle covets. He was arrested during day one of the
draft, so obvious character concerns are there. Spencer Ware was drafted to
play fullback. At LSU, he was a physical bruising RB, and it will be
interesting if he can make the transition. Ty Powell and Jared Smith can be
solid depth guys, with a good chance to stick.
