2014 Preseason Rookies of the Week

Preseason Week Four Rookie of the Week

OAKLAND RAIDERS QB - Derek Carr (2nd Round/Fresno State)
The DFD #2 ranked QB, Derek Carr fell to round two. The Raiders were able to draft two top ten players with their first two picks. Carr should probably start over Matt Schaub sooner rather than later. Carr threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns against a mostly reserve Seattle defense. Carr also completed 85% of his passes.

Preseason Week Three Rookie of the Week

OAKLAND RAIDERS OLB - Khalil Mack (1st Round/Buffalo)

Khalil Mack was a basically unrecruited player coming out of high school, and in four years became a maniac linebacker that makes plays in all facets of the game. In a losing effort versus the Packers, Mack recorded five tackles (including two for loss) and made a perfect read on a screen pass for an interception. Mack will be the centerpiece of the Raiders defense for years to come.

Preseason Week Two Rookie of the Week

MINNESOTA VIKINGS QB - Teddy Bridgewater (1st Round/Louisville)

Teddy Bridgewater was the DFD overall #2 ranked player for the 2014 draft, and therefore I was mildly surprised when he slipped to the last pick of the first round. Bridgewater led a 4th quarter comeback against the Cardinals. He completed 16 of 20 pass attempts, for 177 yards, and two touchdowns, including the game winner with 53 seconds left. Bridgewater is listed as the backup right now to Matt Cassell, but it is only a matter of time before he is the starter.

Preseason Week One Rookie of the Week

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS WR - Brandin Cooks (1st Round/Oregon State)
Brandin Cooks was drafted in the first round, because he was one of the most explosive offensive playmakers available. After his first game, there is no doubt in the truthfulness of that statement. Cooks caught five passes for 55 yards, and he also broke the ankles of a Rams defender on his one touchdown reception. It is a scary thought, when you imagine what he can do when Drew Brees is pulling the trigger.
