Quick Draft Dish: Week 15

WEEK FIFTEEN

LOUISIANA TECH @ MARSHALL
Ø  LOUISIANA TECH SR CB LEVANDER LIGGINS is a solid day three prospect. Liggins is excellent in man coverage, showing good ball skills. He has solid speed. He is probably smaller than his listed 5’11” 190 pounds.
HOUSTON @ CINCINNATI
Ø  HOUSTON SR DT JOEY MBU is a solid defensive tackle prospect. Mbu is a wide bodied player, taking on multiple blockers on most plays. Mbu has adequate pass rush skills. He is likely a rotational player for a 34 defense at the NFL level. Mbu has accepted a Senior Bowl invite.
ALABAMA VS. MISSOURI
Ø  MISSOURI JR OLB SHANE RAY was ejected early from the game for targeting. This is the second week in a row that Ray was responsible for a questionable hit on a QB.
Ø  ALABAMA JR WR AMARI COOPER has showed me enough to think he will be a top 5 draft pick, barring an injury during a playoff game.
FLORIDA STATE VS. GEORGIA TECH
Ø  FLORIDA STATE RSOPH QB JAMEIS WINSTON can really wow you when his head is screwed on straight. Winston was very accurate in the ACC Championship Game. Winston has top-notch arm strength and football I.Q. When he doesn’t rush things and he keeps his feet from going crazy, he doesn’t get into trouble. His off-field issues are well documented. If a team in the top 10 feels confident that those issues will not resurface, his talent dictates he be picked there.
OHIO STATE VS. WISCONSIN
Ø  OHIO STATE SR WR DEVIN SMITH was really impressive in this game. Smith showed tremendous body control and deep ball tracking ability. Smith caught everything with his hands. He has good speed. He could be a riser on draft boards.
FRESNO STATE @ BOISE STATE

Ø  FRESNO STATE SR DT TYELER DAVISON is a solid player. Davison has pass rush ability. He has good strength at the point of attack. I don’t know if he could hold up as a full-time nose tackle.

Quick Draft Dash: Week 14

WEEK FOURTEEN

OHIO @ MIAMI (OH)
Ø  MIAMI (OH) SR CB QUENTIN ROLLINS is new to football. Rollins played basketball for the Redhawks the last four years. Rollins has great cover skills and recovery speed. Rollins has the size and tools scouts drool over. He will show off those skills at the Senior Bowl.
LSU @ TEXAS A&M
Ø  TEXAS A&M SR OT CEDRIC OGBEUHI moved back to left tackle after playing right tackle the last few weeks. Ogbeuhi has struggled during stretches this season. He looked solid in this game and I think he is solidly in the top half of round one.
NEBRASKA @ IOWA
Ø  NEBRASKA JR DE RANDY GREGORY missed this game with an injury. The main reason I tabbed this game as one to watch this week, was his matchup against IOWA SR OT BRANDON SCHERFF. It’s a pity that didn’t get to happen.
ARKANSAS @ MISSOURI
Ø  ARKANSAS SR TE A.J. DERBY has emerged this year as a viable tight end prospect. Derby started at quarterback last season for the Hogs, but made the conversion this season. Derby has decent size at 6’4” 246 pounds. Derby didn’t play in this game. He has accepted a Shrine Game invite. In a weak TE class, Derby can elevate his status.
ARIZONA STATE @ ARIZONA
Ø  ARIZONA STATE SR QB TAYLOR KELLY is not a draftable prospect for me. Kelly has below-average arm strength and isn’t the best decision maker. He is likely a camp body.
SOUTH CAROLINA @ CLEMSON
Ø  CLEMSON SR DT GRADY JARRETT is a good defensive tackle prospect. Jarrett can penetrate the backfield. He has pass rush ability. He is very good in the run game. Jarrett has accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl.
NC STATE @ NORTH CAROLINA
Ø  NORTH CAROLINA SR OLB TRAVIS HUGHES is an okay prospect. Hughes sifts through trash well. He covers receivers well in space. He doesn’t have the sideline-to-sideline speed you would like to see. He also doesn’t have much to show in the way of pass rush ability. Hughes is a late round guy at this point.
Ø  Even though he isn’t draft eligible until 2016, remember the name of NC STATE R-FR DE PHAROAH MCEVER. McEver is a physical freak, with tremendous size and pass rush ability.
MINNESOTA @ WISCONSIN
Ø  MINNESOTA R-SO TE MAXX WILLIAMS is a fast rising prospect. In a year where there isn’t a definitive number one tight end prospect, if he declares he could be that guy. Williams has good size (6’4” 250 pounds), he is a good blocker, and has good speed. He is a natural hands catcher.
MISSISSIPPI STATE @ MISSISSIPPI
Ø  MISSISSIPPI STATE JR RB JOSH ROBINSON is a bowling ball back. He is squatty with decent speed. He runs with power and has solid hands. He is okay in pass protection. Robinson should probably stay in school. If he declares, he will likely get lost in the shuffle with all of the other underclassmen running backs that declare.
PITTSBURGH @ MIAMI (FL)
Ø  MIAMI (FL) JR RB DUKE JOHNSON is one of the top backs in this draft. Johnson has great speed. He is shifty and breaks tackles. Johnson has solid hands.  He is coming off of a knee injury from his sophomore season.
AUBURN @ ALABAMA
Ø  AUBURN JR WR DUKE WILLIAMS is rising fast on my board. Williams has decent speed, but he has excellent hands. He is a good route runner with an excellent catch radius.

Ø  AUBURN JR WR SAMMIE COATES is a physical freak. As a receiver, he is limited. He has a place in the NFL, because you always need a guy that can take the top off of the defense. Could he develop into a well rounded receiver? Sure he can, but right now, I can’t view him as more than a late second round pick.
