2014 Rookies of the Year

2014 OFFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

NEW YORK GIANTS

WR - ODELL BECKHAM JR. (LSU/1ST ROUND)

Despite missing the first four games, OBJ completely dominated. In between his ridiculous catches, Beckham managed to catch 91 passes for 1,305 yards and twelve touchdowns. He is a top ten receiver in the NFL right now.

Also considered: Derek Carr, QB, Oakland; Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Minnesota; Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay; Jeremy Hill, RB, Cincinnati.

2014 DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

BALTIMORE RAVENS

ILB - C.J. MOSLEY (1ST ROUND/ALABAMA)

Mosley was a dynamic playmaker for the Ravens this year. He showed off the skills that he showed in college, and that translated into a sensational rookie season. It gives Baltimore fans hope that perhaps they have finally replaced Ray Lewis.

Also considered: Aaron Donald, DT, St. Louis; Khalil Mack, OLB, Oakland; Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA; Kyle Fuller, CB, Chicago.

2014 Rookies of the Week

Week Seventeen Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK GIANTS WR ODELL BECKHAM, JR. (1ST ROUND/LSU)

Blah, blah, blah...dominating performance...yadda yadda yadda. OBJ with another ho-hum 12 catch, 185 yard performance, and one touchdown. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Beckham Jr. is going to win the DFD Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Week Sixteen Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK GIANTS WR ODELL BECKHAM, JR. (1ST ROUND/LSU)

In what is becoming repetitive, OBJ continues to dominate. Against the Rams, he had eight catches for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Beckham Jr. is going to win the DFD Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Week Fifteen Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK GIANTS WR ODELL BECKHAM, JR. (1ST ROUND/LSU)

Despite missing the first four games of the season, you can make a strong argument that no rookie has been better than OBJ. Against the Redskins, OBJ caught twelve passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He is arguably a top ten NFL receiver right now.

Week Fourteen Rookie of the Week

OAKLAND RAIDERS QB DEREK CARR (2ND ROUND/FRESNO STATE)

Derek Carr has shown enough this season to tell me, that the Raiders have a QB to build around. He has had bumps in the road, but the talent is there. In their 24-13 upset of the 49ers, Carr threw for 254 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Week Thirteen Rookie of the Week

ST. LOUIS RAMS RB TRE MASON (2ND ROUND/AUBURN)

It took a little while for him to catch on, but the last few weeks Tre Mason has finally started to turn it on. In the 52-0 shellacking of the Raiders, Mason had 164 yards of offense and three touchdowns. In the second quarter, Mason had an 89-yard touchdown run.

Week Twelve Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK GIANTS WR ODELL BECKHAM, JR. (1ST ROUND/LSU)

The 2014 rookie receiver class is absolutely loaded. OBJ continues to impress week after week. Against the Cowboys, Beckham made one of the greatest catches I have ever seen. He finished with ten catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Week Eleven Rookie of the Week

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS WR MIKE EVANS (1ST ROUND/TEXAS A&M)

Mike Evans has really started to take over games. Evans probably hasn't even scratched thye surface yet, of how talented he can be. He is barely old enough to buy beer! Evans dominated the Redskins secondary, catching seven passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. It should be fun to see him continue to develop.

Week Ten Rookie of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS ILB CHRIS BORLAND (3RD ROUND/WISCONSIN)
The knock on Chris Borland was he was unathletic and too short. I fell into this trap myself after the Senior Bowl. Borland is quite simply just a productive linebacker. Filling in for the injured Patrick Willis, Borland has 35 tackles over the last two week. In the overtime win over the Saints, Borland recorded 17 tackles, and recovered the fumble that set up the game winning field goal.

Week Nine Rookie of the Week
CINCINNATI BENGALS RB - JEREMY HILL (LSU/2ND ROUND)
In his first career start (for the injured Gio Bernard), Jeremy Hill ran all over Jacksonville. Hill ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns, include the game sealing TD in the 4th quarter, covering sixty yards. The Bengals could have one of the best one-two punches at running back in the league when Bernard gets healthy.

Week Eight Rookie of the Week

MINNESOTA VIKINGS OLB - ANTHONY BARR (1ST ROUND/UCLA)

Most thought Anthony Barr would just be a pass rusher this early in his career, but he has proven to be much more than that. Under coach Mike Zimmer, Barr has been a play maker all season. Against Tampa Bay, he recorded 6 tackles and 1 sack. In overtime, Barr stripped the ball from fellow rookie Austin Sefarien-Jenkins, scooped it up himself, and returned it for the game winning touchdown.

Week Seven Rookie of the Week

BUFFALO BILLS WR - SAMMY WATKINS (1ST ROUND/CLEMSON)

Sammy Watkins is really starting to live up to the hype. Watkins caught 9 passes against the Vikings for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He caught the game winning TD with :4 seconds left.

Week Six Rookie of the Week

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS CB - JASON VERRETT (1ST ROUND/TCU)

Jason Verrett was deemed too small by some G.M.'s. This is why the 5'9" Verrett, the DFD #1 corner in last year's draft, fell to the bottom of round one. Verrett has proven he can play very big. Verrett had six tackles on the day and also had the game sealing interception of fellow rookie Derek Carr, preserving the Chargers 31-28 win over the Raiders.

Week Five Rookie of the Week

BALTIMORE RAVENS ILB - C.J. MOSLEY (1ST ROUND/ALABAMA)

The Ravens got the second biggest steal in the first round, in my opinion, with their drafting of Mosley. Mosley is the best cover linebacker I have ever scouted, and has been a sideline-to-sideline terror since his days at Theodore (Alabama) High School. In a 20-13 loss to the Colts, Mosley led the team with fifteen tackles, and a redzone interception of Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck.

Week Four Rookie of the Week

MINNESOTA VIKINGS QB - TEDDY BRIDGEWATER (1ST ROUND/LOUISVILLE)

To this day, I haven't figured out how Teddy Bridgewater slipped to the last pick of the first round. In his first career start, Bridgewater completed nineteen of his thirty pass attempts for 317 yards. He also ran for 27 yards and a touchdown. The Vikings offense nearly accounted for 600 yards. Bridgewater is a special QB, who will elevate the Vikings to new heights.

Week Three Rookie of the Week

CAROLINA PANTHERS WR - KELVIN BENJAMIN (1ST ROUND/FLORIDA STATE)

Kelvin Benjamin is off to a hot start this season. Benjamin continues to be the lone bright spot on the Panthers offense this season. In a loss to Pittsburgh, Benjamin caught eight passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He is the front runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Week Two Rookie of the Week
BUFFALO BILLS WR - SAMMY WATKINS (1ST ROUND/CLEMSON)
Sammie Watkins is a blazer. The Bills traded up from 9 to 4 to draft Watkins, giving up next year's first round pick in the process. Against the Dolphins, Watkins caught eight passes for 117 yards and one touchdown. The Bills sit at 2-0 and Watkins needs to continue the production he had in this game to justify the price Buffalo paid to acquire him.

Week One Rookie of the Week

CAROLINA PANTHERS WR - KELVIN BENJAMIN (1ST ROUND/FLORIDA STATE)
Kelvin Benjamin is a huge wide receiver with a large catch radius. Benjamin has tremendous hands that makes up for his lack of top speed. When he was drafted, he immediately became the best wide receiver on the Carolina roster. In the Panthers seasoning open win, Benjamin caught six passes for 92 yards and one touchdown. He will be a big contributor to the Carolina offense this year.
