NFL Draft scouting based on a small sample size is always a tricky formula. Based on results of the first three weeks of college football, that has never been more evident. Coming into this season, I had Ohio State QB Cardale Jones and Auburn QB Jeremy Johnson ranked as my number three and number four ranked quarterbacks, respectively. Jones had only started three games for the Buckeyes and Johnson only had one half of play against major competition. They both showed so much promise and upside that I had no problem feeling that highly of them. Low and behold, after the bullets started flying this year, Jones has looked inept, and Johnson can't read coverage at all. Jeremy Johnson has been benched this week for RS freshman QB Sean White and no one would be surprised if Jones was benched for J.T. Barrett. So let this be a lesson to everyone out there, a few games does not make a prospect, but on the flip side, it should not break a prospect either.
